Gwen Stacy has died. Harry Osborn is now a foreign exchange student in Europe. Capt. George Stacy has recently been rendered comatose with a low chance of recovery. Now in college, Peter has lapsed into a depressive state and secludes himself from the people around him. However, when a charismatic cat burglar and a theatrical new hero emerge, Peter wonders if he can finally stop living two lives and embrace only one.
