After being murdered by the government and betrayed by the people he trusted, black-ops operative Al Simmons makes a desperate bargain with the forces of Hell to see his wife one last time. Returned to Earth years later as a grotesque supernatural warrior known as Spawn, Al discovers that his resurrection has made him a pawn in an ancient war between Heaven and Hell. As demonic forces begin manipulating the streets of New York and an apocalyptic conflict slowly approaches, Spawn refuses to serve either side. Haunted by his past and hunted by Heaven's assassins and Hell's monsters, he must uncover who truly engineered his death—and decide whether his soul is worth saving.
