Azog, also known as Azog the Defiler, is a background antagonist in J.R.R. Tolkein's 1937 classic fantasy novel The Hobbit and one of the two main antagonists (along with Smaug) of Sir Peter Jackson's adapted live-action film trilogy, being the main antagonist of both An Unexpected Journey and The Battle of the Five Armies, and a supporting antagonist in The Desolation of Smaug.
He is a powerful and ruthless orc chieftain who answers to the Necromancer, and is the archenemy of Thorin Oakenshield, vowing to kill him and wipe out his family bloodline.
