Friday Foster is a fictional character who first appeared in a nationally syndicated newspaper comic strip in 1970. Created by Jim Lawrence and illustrated by Jorge Longarón, the strip featured realistic, soap-opera-style storylines involving fashion, travel, and adventure. Friday Foster is a former Harlem-based nightclub "camera bunny" who becomes an assistant to a top fashion photographer and later a fashion model. Portrayed as an intelligent, independent, and fashionable woman she often finds herself involved in high-stakes adventures, intrigue, and detective-style mysteries. She is widely recognized as one of the first Black women to star in a mainstream comic title.
