65 Million Years Ago, a meteor the size of a mountain crashed into what is now the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Everything within the 1000-kilometer blast was instantly incinerated, and the shockwaves from the impact caused earthquakes and tsunamis worldwide. Meteoric debris was flung into the air and rained back down, igniting global wildfires and cooking any creature unfortunate enough to not find shelter. Sulfurous rock vaporized by the impact spread across the planet in a cloud of dust that blocked out sunlight and plunged temperatures to freezing in a years long "impact winter," which killed the majority of plants, causing food chains to collapse and mass famine. Around 75% of all life died.
