Hades is the god of the underworld in Greek Mythology and the main antagonist in Hadestown. Hades is a complex and often sympathetic villain. Hades runs the factory Hadestown, which Eurydice goes down to work in, subsequently losing her soul. The most important thing about Hades, however, is that he is the husband of Persephone, and he loves her with all his heart. This is why, at Persephone’s urging, he lets Orpheus play his music for him, and makes a deal to let Orpheus and Eurydice out of Hadestown as long as Orpheus does not turn around. Hades is also very headstrong and does not like to show his vulnerability, though he tends to show his vulnerability to Persephone
