Captain Georg von Trapp is one of the two protagonists from the 1959 Rogers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, as well as its 1965 movie adaptation. A former navy officer, he is the widowed father of seven children who eventually falls for their new governess, Maria, who brings music and joy back into the family's lives.
He is based on Georg Ludwig Ritter von Trapp, a decorated Austro-Hungarian submarine commander and patriarch of the Trapp family, who performed as a singing group from the 1930s to the 1950s.
