Dreams get omitted from fiction unless they are significant. When they are not nightmares about the past, the dreamer will often be Dreaming of Things to Come. These dreams can be symbolic, and are often obscure. They are always, of course, true, but nevertheless can blindside the character with their significance. Symbolic dreams, or ones that merely show elements of the future, may even be taken for dreams of the past. The Hero dreams of the villain and does not realize that this is a warning that he will pop up again soon; he thinks it is just Past Experience Nightmares of the past villainy.
