She was born at the intersection of two dying worlds. She is the only thing keeping either of them alive. The series tracks four seasons of Kaya's attempt to understand and execute a role she was never prepared for, her evolving relationship with Dorian — a scholar from the metaphysical realm who is sent as her formal guide and becomes something more — and her discovery that the reason no new Solari have been born is not natural but engineered, by a faction that has decided controlled collapse is preferable to maintained balance. The show is epic fantasy that does not confuse scale with meaning: its biggest battles are always about something small and specific at their center, usually about what Kaya owes the world and what the world owes her.
