She was raised in the physical world by a father who never told her what she was; discovered her abilities at sixteen in a crisis that destroyed her village; and has spent eleven years since operating as a boundary keeper alone, without training, without precedent, without help. The series tracks four seasons of Kaya's attempt to understand and execute a role she was never prepared for, her evolving relationship with Dorian — a scholar from the metaphysical realm who is sent as her formal guide and becomes something more — and her discovery that the reason no new Solari have been born is not natural but engineered, by a faction that has decided controlled collapse is preferable to maintained balance. The show is epic fantasy that does not confuse scale with meaning: its biggest battles are always about something small and specific at their center, usually about what Kaya owes the world and what the world owes her.
