On the week of his 33rd birthday, freelance writer Harry Mason takes his adoptive daughter, Cheryl, on a cross-country vacation to the lake resort town of Silent Hill, Maine. However, after a freak car accident at the town's border, Cheryl is missing, leaving Harry to pick up the pieces and chase her through the fog-ridden resort town; he never suspects what freakish creations lie behind the thick fog of Silent Hill.
