Shadow the Hedgehog is a 2022 American science fiction action film based on the Sega Games character of the same name. It is a spin-off to the 2022 film Sonic the Hedgehog 2, taking place where that film ended. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film stars Keanu Reeves in the title role, alongside Morena Baccarin, Ben Schwartz, Idris Elba, Frank Welker, Jim Carrey, and McKenna Grace. Shadow the Hedgehog was released on February 12th, 2022. It grossed over $986 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of 2022. The film received mixed reviews, with critics praising its action sequences, musical score, performances (particularly Reeves, Baccarin, and Welker), visual effects, cinematography, Snyder's direction and the film's realistic imagination of the title character, while criticizing its screenplay, story, the overly dark tone, violent content, and perceived lack of ambition. The R rated certification to this film was also met with a polarized response. A sequel, Shadow the Hedgehog: Reign of Black Doom, was released 2 years later.
