First appeared in New Mutants #8 in 1983 and was created by Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, and Bob McLeod. Amara Aquilla was a mutant from the Roman colony of Nova Roma, hidden in modern day Brazil. After being knocked into a pit of lava, her mutant powers manifested and she later joined the New Mutants as Magma.
