When their father dies and his estate passes entirely to their half-brother under a disputed will, the Dashwood women — mother, Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret — are left with almost nothing and must move into a small house on the Oregon coast owned by a distant cousin. Elinor, the eldest, is a UX researcher who processes everything through analysis and spreadsheets and is very carefully not talking about the man she left behind in London. Marianne, her younger sister, is a composer and poet who has never once processed anything quietly in her life, and who is about to fall devastatingly for a man who does not deserve it.
