Years after the original Woodsboro murders, Sydney Prescott is trying to give her teenage daughter, Tatum Evans, a normal life away from the Ghostface legacy. That becomes impossible when a new Ghostface begins targeting Tatum and uses sophisticated AI videos impersonating the supposedly dead Stu Macher to torment Sydney. As the killings continue, Sydney becomes increasingly suspicious of her own daughter, especially after Tatum cannot account for her whereabouts during several murders. Their relationship falls apart as Sydney begins seeing the same resentment and anger in Tatum that she once saw in previous Ghostface killers. The truth is revealed when Tatum's best friend Chloe, Sydney's neighbor Jessica Bowden, and drama teacher George Willis are exposed as the three Ghostfaces. They claim they want to reinvent Ghostface by eliminating the personal motives and tragic backstories associated with previous killers, but Sydney exposes their hypocrisy because they all have personal reasons for committing the murders. In the final confrontation, Sydney, Tatum, Gale, and Chad fight back against the killers. Tatum kills Chloe, Chad kills George, and Sydney and Gale defeat Jessica, with Kirby arriving to ensure Jessica is finally dead. Mark surprisingly survives his injuries, and the film ends with Sydney and Tatum finally reconciling, united rather than divided by the Ghostface legacy.
