One of the four main characters, Emilia Stozek is a fifteen year old refugee from Lwów, in southeastern Poland. Emilia is a highly perceptive, intuitive young woman who feels deeply connected to nature. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. *Spoiler* *Possible trigger warning* Having been raped by Russian soldiers in the events before the novel, Emilia is pregnant. In the beginning of the book she hides this but Joana and Florian eventually discover the truth.
