In the spring of 1898, the United States is pulled into war with Spain after the explosion of the USS Maine and a wave of public pressure fueled by politics and yellow journalism. As the nation rushes toward conflict, Theodore Roosevelt resigns his post and helps assemble the Rough Riders, a volunteer cavalry regiment made up of cowboys, soldiers, athletes, and restless idealists.
