Peter Frederick Weller (born June 24, 1947) is an American film and stage actor, director and lecturer. He is best known for his roles as the title character in the first two RoboCop films and Buckaroo Banzai in the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. He received an Academy Award nomination for his direction for the 1993 short Partners, in which he also acted. He also hosted the show Engineering an Empire on the History channel. He played Stan Liddy in the 5th Season of the Showtime original series, Dexter.

The series takes place in a future where technology has advanced rapidly, but societal issues like corporate overreach, cybercrime, and corruption continue to thrive. OmniCorp, now rebranded as OCP NeoTech, has been privatized into a global megacorporation controlling not only law enforcement but also every aspect of civilian life, from medical care to surveillance. Detroit, once a symbol of hope, has become a sprawling, tech-controlled police state. Murphy, still the original RoboCop but now running on failing tech, is awakened from dormancy to take on a new breed of criminals: rogue AI, cyber-terrorists, and powerful crime syndicates operating in the shadows. As RoboCop navigates the morally gray future, he partners with a rebellious young officer, Detective Kira Evans, who challenges the system from within. Together, they uncover a conspiracy that goes deep into OCP NeoTech’s leadership, involving the development of a new line of RoboCop 2.0 units designed to be fully AI-controlled with no human input. The series explores whether Murphy, a relic of the past, can still uphold justice in a world that’s left humanity behind. Each episode mixes intense action with philosophical questions about identity, free will, and the consequences of AI replacing human decision-making. Murphy’s ongoing struggle with his fading humanity is brought to the forefront, as he is forced to question whether he is still the law enforcer he once was—or merely a tool of the system.
