Residents of the small town of Rio Bravo can't complain about the lack of excitement for a long time. This is mainly caused by the Burdet brothers. The elder Nathan is one of the biggest ranchers in the county and keeps a protective hand over his younger brother Joe. When Joe shoots an unarmed man, Sheriff John T. Chance arrests him and puts him in jail. He shows extraordinary courage in doing so, as he stands almost alone in the city against Burdet's men. He is flanked by his two sidekicks, the perpetually drunk Dude and the semi-lame old Stumpy. Nevertheless, he will try to face several times the odds... The famous western was made by the classic American film director Howard Hawks (creator of the unforgettable films Scarface, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, El Dorado and Red River). In a story telling about true friendship, a sense of honor and justice, he used elements of romance in an impressive way, and captivates with the atmosphere and psychological drawing of the main characters. The self-confident, tough sheriff is played by John Wayne, the assistant Dude who also struggles with alcohol is played by Dean Martin, the role of an attractive young gambler is played by Angie Dickinson.
