J’onn is being held in a high-tech capsule in Area 52. He is being studied by scientists, all under Amanda Waller, superior agent of ARGUS, with the help of General Wade Eiling and Senator Hammond. The superhero Starman attempts to break in but is captured by the super powered guards of the facility and is placed in a capsule near J’onn’s. They are being kept in a section of the base, labeled Project Cadmus, alongside Larry, a man who can shoot a spirit of energy from his body, Vigilante, a superhero from Mexico, who was diagnosed with a high potential meta-gene, and Project-Bu12t, an experimental government super-soldier. The five plan a breakout, but fail. In the end, Larry has gone missing, Project-Bu12t has failed, Starman has escaped with severe injuries, Vigilante has shot himself, and J’onn is left in captivity, suffering.
