Samuel Z. "Pops" Worthy, Diana's widower father, a kindhearted yet grieving man. Having lost his wife Sandra when she gave birth to Diana, he has tried to be the best parent he can to Diana whilst also trying to maintain the Family Ranch, causing him a lot of stress, as well as religious doubt. Despite unscrupulous mafioso land developer Mr. Slick constantly trying to buy the house, Pops always shooing him away. On the day he and Diana take in an unconscious boy who "fell from the stars," Mr. Slick's goons try to kill him to finally take the land to replace it with an oil field. However, the star boy comes to their rescue, driving the men off for good. Pops welcomes Bobby to stay with the family for the year, thus becoming a frequent ally. 56 years old.
