In its day “The World a Million Years Ago” was a state-of-the-art attraction! When the show first played at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and was also featured at the 1939-40 New York World's Fair under the name "Pastorama", it played inside a big dome-like structure. Upon entering this dome, people were conveyed a long moving sidewalk, passing various prehistoric tableau courtesy of Messmore & Damon’s mechanical figures. The animals’ and “prehistoric peoples'” vocal sounds were played back from records.
