Zeltrax, en sus inicios era conocido como Zander, un científico brillante y leal al bien trabajaba junto a los Dino Guardian en la investigación de tecnologías avanzadas y estrategias para proteger la civilización subterránea de posibles amenazas. Sin embargo durante una expedición Zander fue gravemente herido en un enfrentamiento con una fuerza desconocida. Desesperado por salvar su vida aceptó la oferta de Mesogog, quien prometió curarlo y otorgarle poderes asombrosos a cambio de su lealtad. Zander accedió y fue sometido a un oscuro ritual que lo transformó en Zeltrax, un guerrero cibernético con un blindaje impenetrable y habilidades mejoradas.
