Clancy is revealed to ultimately be the culprit behind the Shadow Pokemon incidents, all to test the Shadow Synergy Stones created from a Mew he had captured and infused with one of the stones, with his aim being to have the stone take it over, then engineer a whole army of Shadow Pokemon by using it to produce Shadow Synergy Stones, not realizing his plot would corrupt and ultimately kill them both. When the shadow energy takes them over, it's up to the Ferrum Champion to stop them and save Mew before it's too late.
