Xerneas is the god of life itself, who lives within the Tree of Life and is said to dispell eternal life from its horns. In the post-game, Pawmot asks the player to meet with Xerneas and use its gift of life to allow the many Pokemon eggs stuck in eternal stasis by the Shattering to hatch using its gift of eternal life—and after achieving this ends, the player can return to the Tree of Life and battle Xerneas for a chance at recruiting it into their party.
