In reality, Professor Oak asked him to meet up with Lance to discuss the activities of the newly-revived Team Rocket, but with Lance missing in action and the awakening of Arceus impeding, he's back in the heroic saddle once more. Since he's older here, you can chose whether he'd keep his original VA or get recast.
