Captain Phoebus is unhappy. His wife-Fleur-de-Lys-often extorts money from him and disrespects him. During his service, he meets Esmeralda again. When one day he is wounded fighting one of the thieves, Esmeralda helps him and treats his wounds. The man discovers that he really loves her and regrets having lied to her and used her before. He decides to fight for her but Fleur will not let him.
