Lorenzo Richelmy (born March 25, 1990) is an Italian actor who achieved global recognition for his lead role as the titular explorer in the Netflix historical epic series Marco Polo (2014–2016). A graduate of the prestigious Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, he became the youngest student ever admitted to the institution at age 16. Before his international breakthrough, he established himself in Italian cinema and television, notably starring in the series I liceali and the award-winning film Il terzo tempo. Following his success in Hollywood, Richelmy returned to Europe to star in diverse projects, including the mystery thriller The Girl in the Fog (2017) alongside Toni Servillo and the action-comedy Ride (2018).

Othello, a charismatic and respected military general, finds himself torn apart by his own insecurities and the machinations of his trusted advisor, Iago. Consumed by jealousy, Iago manipulates those around him, planting seeds of doubt in Othello's mind about the faithfulness of his beloved wife, Desdemona. Luhrmann's bold visual style transports the audience into a world of sleek corporate offices, luxurious penthouses, and pulsating high society parties. The contrasting settings between the opulent upper echelons of society and the gritty underbelly of the city amplify the tension and the class divide that underlies the story. As Othello becomes increasingly consumed by his suspicions, the film delves into his internal struggle with identity, racism, and the fear of losing everything he holds dear. The Shakespearean language intertwines with modern dialogue, highlighting the timeless relevance of the play's themes. Desdemona, portrayed as an intelligent and independent woman, fights against the constraints of both her gender and her husband's doubts. Her unwavering love for Othello becomes a beacon of hope in a world clouded by deception and manipulation.
