This prestige six-part limited series is a sweeping, unflinching adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic masterpiece, tracing Oliver Twist’s perilous journey through the starkly divided world of Victorian England. Born in the squalor of a provincial parish workhouse and subjected to the institutional cruelty of the pompous beadle Mr. Bumble, Oliver commits the ultimate act of rebellion by asking for more gruel. Cast out and apprenticed to a grim undertaker, he violently defends his dead mother’s honor before fleeing down a grueling 70-mile road to London. In the city's foggy, labyrinthine underworld, he is taken in by the charismatic Artful Dodger and inducted into a juvenile pickpocket ring run by the enigmatic fence Fagin. When a botched theft exposes Oliver to the gentle aristocracy of Mr. Brownlow and the Maylie family, a deadly tug-of-war begins for the boy’s soul. Unbeknownst to Oliver, a shadowy figure named Monks is conspiring with Fagin to destroy the boy's reputation and steal his rightful inheritance. The stakes escalate into a dark psychological thriller as the tragic Nancy risks her life to expose the plot, igniting a wave of violence from her abusive, terrifying lover Bill Sikes that culminates in a gripping rooftop manhunt. Blending gritty social realism with a high-stakes family mystery, the series exposes the systemic rot of the Victorian class system while charting Oliver's harrowing path toward justice, redemption, and the warmth of a true home.
