Amy Lou Adams (born August 20, 1974) is an American actress. Known for both her comedic and dramatic roles, she has been featured three times in annual rankings of the world's highest-paid actresses. She has received various accolades, including two Golden Globe Awards. She has been nominated for six Academy Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Adams began her career as a dancer in dinner theatre, a pursuit she followed from 1994 to 1998. They made her film debut with a supporting part in the dark comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999). She made guest appearances on television and took on roles as the "mean girl" in low-budget feature films. Eloise-adopted daughter of Ruth and John-is turning 18. It is her happiest day. The family throws her a wonderful party and gives her lots of great gifts. However, it is also a day that changes her life. After the party is over, she overhears her parents' conversation, at which she learns that she is not their biological daughter as she thought. John and Ruth discuss Harper, who, their daughter learns, is a surrogate, Eloise's biological mother, with whom contact was severed years ago. Eloise is distraught; she has spent her entire life in a lie. The next evening she writes a letter to her parents, who she informs that she intends to find her real mother herself. That same evening she disappears. Ruth and John are horrified when they find only the letter in the morning. Fearing for their daughter, they decide to find her. When they call, Eloise does not answer. They have to find not only Eloise, but also Harper.
