Prior to the arrival of Ginpachi, Josuke, Chidori and Saya, he was supposed to be in his 2nd year, but he repeats 1st year again due to causing trouble in the school grounds causing his academic performances to decrease and he had to repeat again in the 1st year, Class 1-B. He is a somewhat a troublesome and unstable individual, as he is shown to occasionally having a freak-out whenever things don't go his way. He is also a member of the disciplinary committee and also a member of the school band as he is sometimes seen carrying a guitar and is also seen to be quite good at playing it.
