Martin Howard is the ex husband of Denise, the only son of Max Howard and the father to Lily, Christopher and Mia. He runs his own law firm, Martin Howard and Associates. Stacey is one of his interns. After the divorce, Martin decides to hire someone to help take care of things around the house, so Denise decides to disguise herself as "Mr. Penrose" and applies for the job herself. Martin has his birthday dinner party at Max's country club one evening. He is shocked and furious when he discovers that Mr. Penrose was Denise in disguise the whole time after one of Max's employees exposes it. Martin angrily tells Denise that he no longer trusts her and is not allowed near the children. In the end, both Martin and Denise would be on good terms with each other and he allows her to see the children as much as she can after discussing it with the courts. Martin learns that Stacey was offered a job in another city.
