After the defeat of Shinnok, the thunder god Raiden becomes consumed by vengeance and executes the fallen Elder God. This act disrupts the balance of history, drawing the attention of Kronika, the Keeper of Time. Believing Raiden is responsible for countless timeline failures, Kronika uses the Hourglass to rewrite history and create a new era where Raiden and Liu Kang never exist. As the past and present collide, younger versions of Earthrealm's champions—including Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, Kitana, Jade, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero—are pulled into the present. They must work alongside their older selves to stop Kronika before she erases everything they know. Meanwhile, old enemies such as Shao Kahn, Baraka, Skarlet, Frost, Erron Black, Kano, and Kabal join Kronika's forces in exchange for promises of power in her new timeline. As alliances shift and betrayals unfold, Scorpion discovers the truth behind his past and forms an unlikely alliance with Sub-Zero, while Kitana unites Outworld's people against Shao Kahn. In the final battle at the Hourglass, Raiden sacrifices his divine power to merge with Liu Kang, creating Fire God Liu Kang. Armed with the strength of both man and god, he confronts Kronika in a battle that will decide the fate of every realm. With history itself hanging in the balance, Fire God Liu Kang must defeat Kronika and forge a new future for the Mortal Kombat universe.
