Varan (大怪獣バラン Daikaijū Baran, lit. Giant Monster Varan) is a 1958 tokusatsu kaiju film produced by Toho, and the company's last black-and-white kaiju film. It was released to Japanese theaters on October 14, 1958.
It takes place in the year 2099, all of Earth’s monsters have been rounded up and confined in a South Pacific island known as Monster Island. But two feuding alien races (the Xiliens and the Kilaak) have taken control of the monsters and have released them to destroy major cities around the world. Now earth must place their hopes on a JSDF team and the king of monsters Godzilla to defeat the aliens and break their control on the monsters of Earth.
