Unbeknownst to them, the Mortal Kombat tournament is only a diversion. They eventually learn that travel between Earthrealm and a newly discovered realm is possible only when the balance between the positive and negative furies—the opposing forces that keep the unstable universe from collapsing—is disrupted.
Foreseeing the coming invasion of Earthrealm, the wise men appeal to the Elder Gods. In response, the Elder Gods create the Mortal Kombat tournament as Earth's greatest defense against those who seek to conquer it.
As the threat of invasion grows, Gregory, Cassie, and the Kombatants unite under the leadership of Fire God Cole Young and Fire God Liu Kang. Standing beside them are the Glamrocks, forming an unbreakable alliance. Fire God Liu Kang's apprentices—Raiden, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage, and Kenshi Takahashi—fight alongside Fire God Cole Young's apprentices—Glamrock Freddy, Glamrock Bonnie, Montgomery Gator, and Glamrock Foxy. Bound by trust, courage, and loyalty, they become a true band of brothers, determined to defend Earthrealm from Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, and every force that threatens its future.
