While on a mission for the Galactic Federation, Samus is stranded on a planet called Aether. While there, she encounters mysterious dark creatures, called The Ing, who have been at war with the Luminoth. Samus must help the last Luminoth to free Aether from the Ing and face off against her evil doppelgänger: Dark Samus
