Metroid is a 2026 American dystopian science fiction action film based on the video game franchise of the same name created and developed by Nintendo Entertainment. Produced by Legendary Pictures and The Stone Quarry and distributed by Universal Pictures, it is the first installment of the Metroid film series. Directed by Neill Blomkamp and written by Zack Snyder and Jeremy Slater, the film stars Cara Delevingne as Samus "Sam" Aran, along with Mahershala Ali, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ving Rhames, Willem Dafoe, Karl Urban, Andy Serkis, Paul Rudd, Bridget Moynahan, and Samuel L. Jackson. It serves as an origin story for Samus. Set primarily on the dystopian future in Planet Earth, Sam is a widowed hiking expedition member whose husband and son died recently from huntington's disease.
