Gilmartin is a former member of the IRA. He resents the English army after his older brother was killed by the Irish for fighting in the British Army after World War I. He is killed early in the film, shortly after his flashback which will trick audiences into thinking he will be a main character. (Vote for whoever you want, but I'm REALLY keen on Barry Keoghan playing this role)
