X-Statix is a media-driven mutant team used for fame and publicity. They managed to amass a substantial following, as well as establish a few merchandising/business outlets. The team’s financier, Spike Freeman—who craves more money and attention—suddenly recruits new member Venus Dee Milo and tasks the heroes with dangerous (even deadly) missions, all in an effort to keep the brand relevant. This—along with the fact that innocent lives are now being endangered—prompts the team to stop Freeman’s vision. In retaliation, he hastily informs the team that he has dirt (and doctored footage) on all of them, threatening to flip the narrative and make them public enemies. Is this mercantile life enough to satiate the fact that their actions are blurring the lines between entertainment and criminality? Tune in to find out!
