In the ancient times, Atlantis was a powerful empire above the surface of the ocean, created in honor of their Olympian patron god Poseidon. Zeus sunk Atlantis out of jealousy of his brother, and the humans of the empire were magically changed into water-breathing Atlanteans. The warrior Andromeda discovered a prophecy that would have prevented the sinking and lead Atlantis to dominating all of Earth, one tha required both the Trident of Poseidon and the Trident of Atlantis. She tried to use magic to claim the Trident of Atlantis, but her power accidentally pulled her to claim the Trident of Atlantis and its rightful bearer, the king of Atlantis Namor, aka Sub-Mariner. Namor’s teammate led in the Avengers rescued their friend, and defeated Andromeda’s team of aquatic heroes and villains, whom they now call the Deep Six. The Deep Six later tried to get their revenge against the Avengers, but were defeated by them with the help of the cosmic hero Faith.
