A sequel to the 1996 film and Roald Dahl novel, Matilda. The film opens to what appears to be a couple fighting in a window of a New York apartment. After much shouting, the male figure slams the apartment door and leaves. The female figure slides into a dinning room chair and begins to cry. Danny DeVito reprises his role as the Narrator. "Years have went by. Matilda clung to Miss. Honey's radiant and joyous motherhood as long as she possibly could. She is now living in a New York apartment. A divorce has come and gone. She is blessed with a handsome and special young son, Phillip." Matilda is out of a job and recently divorced. She must return back home to live with her adopted mother, Miss Jennifer Honey. She receives a job as a librarian at her former school, Crunchem Hall. Miss. Honey is able to give her the job, since she is still the Principle at the school. Matilda enrolls her young son into the Kindergarten program. After one perfect year goes by, Miss. Honey tragically passes away from a massive heart attack. Matilda and Phillip continue living in her home. It is revealed that Gretchen Trunchbull, the sister of Agatha Trunchbull, will be taking the job as the new principle. Matilda quickly learns that Gretchen is no better than her sister, and that she must help protect the children of Crunchem Hall. After many elusive thrills and tricks, Gretchen decides to bring her sister Agatha in to help her run a tighter ship. Another teacher at the school, Luke Kingsley, tries to help Matilda overcome the wicked ways of the Trunchbull sisters. Matilda and Luke seem to fall in love. When the two teachers are trapped by the Trunchbulls, Matilda's son, Phillip, helps them escape with his telekinesis powers. It is revealed here that Matilda's powers have been passed on to her son. The Trunchbull sisters are arrested and Crunchem Hall is shutdown. Matilda, Luke, and Philip move away to start their own school for children with increasing smarts and special abilities. Matilda leaves her mother's house in the hands of a local realtor. As the movie ends it shows the realtor giving a tour of the house to what is hilariously revealed to be Harry and Zinnia Wormwood.
