Anthony Dwane Mackie (born September 23, 1978) is an American actor. He gained wide recognition for portraying Sam Wilson / Falcon / Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with the film Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), and headlining the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and its continuation film Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Mackie made his film debut in 8 Mile (2002), and earned critical recognition for his roles in Brother to Brother (2004), which garnered him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Actor, and The Hurt Locker (2008), which earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the AAFCA Awards. He also played Tupac Shakur in Notorious (2009) and Martin Luther King Jr. in the HBO film All the Way (2016). On television, Mackie starred as Takeshi Kovacs in the second season of Netflix's Altered Carbon (2020) and currently leads the Peacock series Twisted Metal (2023–present). In theatre, he has performed in Broadway and Off-Broadway adaptations, including Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, A Soldier's Play, and Carl Hancock Rux's Talk, for which he won an Obie Award in 2002. After a disaster during one of the Avengers missions, the government has created a Superhuman Registration Act, stating that the Avengers can no longer operate has an independent organization. The Avengers become split over it. Tony immediately wants to sign it, and Peter 2, Rhodey, and Vision are in full agreement with him. Steve has his reservations though, and Logan and Sam agree with him. Natasha, on the other hand, is split between what she thinks is right and what her husband believes. Things get even more complicated when someone frames Bucky Barnes for killing the king of Wakanda, which gets a new hero, the Black Panther, involved in the conflict. Steve still believes in Bucky, and will do anything to prove his innocence, but Tony is fully willing to take Steve and Bucky down, and anyone who sides with them.
