Mario Warfare is a 2022 American action film based on Micah Moore's YouTube film of the same name. It is the first installment in the Mario Warfare film series. Directed by Tim Miller and produced by Moore himself, the film stars Joel McHale and Johnny Depp alongside Lewis Tan, Elizabeth Olsen, James McAvoy, Ludi Lin, Taron Egerton, Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, and Ron Perlman. In the film, the Mario Brothers join the army to fight Bowser, and they ally with the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach, and the Smash Club resistance. Following the critical and financial success of its source material on YouTube, Paramount Pictures brought Miller on board to direct an R-rated adaption to that film, with McHale and Depp being cast in the lead roles. Mario Warfare was released to positive reviews, with praise for Miller's direction, the editing, sound, the emotionally dark tone, faithfulness to the original film, acting, cinematography, story, action sequences and musical score. It was also a commercial success, grossing over $754 million worldwide. A sequel is currently in development.
