This is a play within a play. Don't Miguel de Cervantes is taken prisoner by the Spanish Inquisition for performing a play he wrote about a country squire, Alonso Quijano, who went mad in his old age, imagining himself instead to be the valiant knight, Don Quixote de La Mancha, and set off with a neighboring farmer, Sancho, as his Squire to rid the world of evil and injustice.
