Mr. Smee is a fictional character and the secondary antagonist first introduced in 1904 in the play of Peter Pan as Captain Hook's boatswain created by Scottish playwright and novelist, Sir James M. Barrie. He is shown to be an oddly genial man for a pirate and is described as "Irish" who is the only nonconformist among the crew of the Jolly Roger, Captain Hook's ship and "a man who stabbed without offense." Smee is more interested in loot, rather than Hook's more evil pleasures and typically represents a humorous side to pirating, often portrayed as a portly man with a bulbous nose and red cheeks, although there are hints to a darker side of him, but he will protect his captain whenever Hook is in fear of his life, especially when the crocodile's presence is near via the swallowed alarm clock. In the 1953 Disney adaption, Mr. Smee is depicted as Captain Hook's loyal first mate and personal assistant who helps his captain in any ways he can to lure Peter Pan out of hiding to settle his vendetta against the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up.
