Set in the glamorous and mythic world of ancient Greece, Rachel Smythe's Lore Olympus follows the story of Hades and Persephone, two gods who are drawn together by fate and forced apart by the intrigues of the Olympian court. As the musical unfolds, we see Hades, the god of the underworld, as a complex character with a brooding demeanor and a hidden vulnerability. Despite his reputation as a fearsome and unapproachable deity, Hades is drawn to Persephone, a naive and idealistic younger goddess who is new to the world of Olympus. However, their budding romance is not without challenges. The other gods, including Persephone's overbearing mother Demeter, disapprove of their relationship. Meanwhile, Hades must contend with his own insecurities and the constant threats of rebellion in his realm, which threatens to break the tenuous peace between all of the gods and to unleash chaos and destruction upon the world above. As the musical unfolds, we see the love between Hades and Persephone challenged by past traumas, outside forces and the weight of expectation from everyone around them. However, they persevere, learning to trust each other and their own hearts in the face of adversity. Together, Hades and Persephone unite to save the world above from impending doom, using their own strengths and powers to overcome their enemies and create a better future together.
