Hercule Poirot is approached by American actress Jane Wilkinson, who desperately wants a divorce from her wealthy and tyrannical husband, Lord Edgware, to marry a Duke. Poirot agrees to assist and meets with the aristocrat, only to find him surprisingly willing to grant the divorce—but the next morning, Lord Edgware is found brutally murdered in his study.
