After a horrific battle with scarlet fever leaves her blind, Mary's entire life lies in shambles. In addition to the prospect of facing a world of blackness forever, she is also forced to accept that her lifelong dream of completing her education and becoming a teacher is now unattainable. Yet God always has a plan for those who are faithful to him, and even as Mary's terrible affliction begins to erase her vanity and bossiness, the Ingalls make an incredible discovery. A new blind college has been established in the United States, and if they can earn enough money to supply her tuition, Mary may be able to pursue a life of joy and knowledge after all!
