He used to be a Grade 9 Fixer of a one-man Office before he wandered into the Library. Like the original game, his appearance was inspired by the actor James McAvoy. The film's version of Roland was also inspired by Nada (Roddy Piper) from They Live (1988), Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård) from The Northman (2022) and Walter Kovacs / Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) from Watchmen (2009). Additional inspiration for the performance came from Robert Pattinson's Batman from The Batman (2022) and Peter Weller, including the films The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) and N Lunch (1991) as well as Meta Knight from HAL Laboratory's Kirby franchise.
