Josephine Anwhistle was Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire's second cousin's sister-in-law - namely the sister of the spouse of the Baudelaires' second cousin - and becomes their guardian in The Wide Window. In spite of this familial relationship, they refer to her as their Aunt Josephine. At the end of The Wide Window, Count Olaf pushes her over the side and into the waiting mouths of the lachrymose leeches.
